Finally we arrived at base camp of Gasherbrum 2 after a fantastic helicopter flight that had to make more trips to be able to carry all of the base camp at 5100 meters. The helicopter took us from Skardu and landed in Paju (intermediate stage) and then to the Gasherbrum...
GII Winter Expedition – Finally at Base Camp

Winter Gasherbrum expedition begunst unexpectedly… as usual. In Kazakhstan and Russia the winter coming as a surprise for communal forses. For population also. But feelings were happended simila for me - I find oneself under tha Gasherbrum-2 buttom into Karakorum’s mountain sistem heart. And this is one of the most interesting places of the planet, as possible to report.
Is possible to count some “thin” points of our funny deal. For the analise, by word… and don’t forget for the future. And for possibility to find asnwer in case of th unsuccess.
1. The cold. Unusually I feel more strongely during this expedition. So… is less fat on my body, than before… or is in reason of my age. Also - is not in the big hope to see this digits. -20 in BC during the day, -30 in BC during the night, -50 near the summit. With some wind.
2. Yes - Wind! You can to lough perhaps, or get emazing… but wind is strongely at winter time.
3. Clothes. Happend unfortunutally. And was nesesseary to undress my friend Simone. But we are not so similar, as in opinion of community. Is a joke probably.
4. Total self-control. I have a problems in this now at last year expecially - becouse of to much duty… than I am not able to think about details. As usual, put photocamera under the jacket, and everything become froozen inside… an possible to get pulmonal edema emmideately. Or get evening into the kitchen tent getting pleasure by warm air with kerosin fimiames… and it will drive you crasy. Or make a jump in the icefall unfortunatelly… and knee get a bend that will be nesesseary to repare it during some days.
5. Third member of efforts. With my full respect to Cory, his hi-altitude expirience is quite short for the first winter 8000-meters expedition.
6. Unturning back out. Always is “possibility for manevre” in usual normal condition. But is not enougth power, time and condition to change wrong actions some time . In this reason movement (development) is in one direction only - that is much more risky. As by bob from the hill slope - is easy don’t have any press from duty, but no any idea for the final destination.
7. Pakistan’s camp close location. Is one military town very near - bringing many interesting details in our life. Possibility for some infections also. Friendship and International partnership between contries.
8. Too strong trust in modern. Some time can be wrong: forecast than happend miracly trustable for us after winter Makalu summit push, condition of kerosine stove in kitchen, old equipment on road -as fixe-ropes… and many others. Is some important comfortable things that make me in dependence for pleasure. But not under the my control often.
9. The change of ideas. Some aims should be - to climb and return back safety. But! Is not enough usual. And is some parallel details around that support reality not always correctly for exact moment.
So… I was writing it for myself. To understand situation better, to keep it under the my inner view… under the rules… but what does it mean?… Hola! That’s right… This is additional self-control… one of the slyde detail of this Winter Gasherbrum-2 expedition.

Чаша Фемиды.
Зимняя экспедиция наступила неожиданно… как всегда. Зима в Казахстане и в России обычно наступает неожиданно для коммунальных служб. И для жителей. Но по факту неожиданности ощущение одинаковое - я внезапно оказался у подножия Гашербрума-2 в самом сердце горной системы Каракорум. А это, доложу вам, одно из самых интересных мест на планете.
Но теперь можно обозначить несколько «тонких» моментов нашего веселого мероприятия. Для анализа, так сказать… и что бы не забылось в дальнейшем. Ну… и чтобы было на что кивнуть в случае неудачи.
1. Холод. Почему-то в этой зимней экспедиции я чувствую его острее. Ну… то ли жировой слой потоньше, чем ранее, то ли старость подкатывается. Ну и цифры, конечно, не самые обнадеживающие. -20 в Базе днем, -30 в Базе ночью, -50 по словам синоптиков на вершине. С ветерком :)
2. Кстати - ветер! Возможно, вы будете смеяться или удивитесь… но зимой он почему-то намного сильнее.
3. Одежда. Как-то все не сложилось Ну и пришлось по ходу раздевать Симоне. А мы немного разные, хоть и говорят, что похожи. Шутят, наверное.
4. Постоянный самоконтроль. С этим стало сложнее именно в последний год, потому что слишком много ответственности накопилось… так что я подчас не успевал думать о мелочах. Знаете, сунешь фотоаппарат за пазуху, и он все вымораживает… да так, что и ангину схватить не долго. Или посидишь вечером в кухне-столовой, наслаждаясь теплом, и заодно надышишься фимиамом керосина… и не заметишь, как угоришь до беспамятства. Или прыгнешь в ледопаде неудачно… и колено на излом, так что потом его несколько дней восстанавливать.
5. Третий участник саммита. При всем уважении к Кори, его высотный опыт оставляет желать лучшего для проведения первой зимней экспедиции на восьмитысячник.
6. Необратимость. В нормальных условиях всегда есть «пространство для маневра». А в зимней экспедиции подчас просто не хватает сил, времени и условий для исправления ошибок. Поэтому - движение (развитие) только в одном направлении, что намного рискованнее. Как на санях с горки - приятно тем, что снимаешь с себя всякую ответственность, но опасно тем, что непонятно, куда кривая вывезет.
7. Соседство пакистанского лагеря. Расположившийся неподалеку военный городок привносит много постороннего в наш быт. В том числе и возможность инфекции типа ангины или гриппа. Дружба народов и развитие международных отношений.
8. Слишком сильная вера в силу прогресса. Иногда могут подвести: прогноз погоды, в который мы свято уверовали после зимнего штурма Макалу, работа керосиновой плитки на кухне, чужие следы на маршруте - типа старых перильных веревок… и многое другое. Слишком уж сильно я завишу… от мира приятного, полезного, но… созданного не мной.
9. Подмена понятий. Задача должна быть - залезть на вершину и спуститься живыми. Но! Иногда этого недостаточно. И возникает много сопутствующих факторов, которые не всегда позитивно сказываются на сиюминутном процессе.
В общем, написал я это, скорее, для самого себя. Чтобы четко понимать ситуацию, чтобы видеть ее описание перед мысленным взором, везде и всегда… а что это значит? А! правильно. Это - дополнительный самоконтроль… один из скользких моментов этой Зимней экспедиции на Гашербрум-2.
